Rector Mykhailo Zgurovsky and President of the NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin signed an agreement of cooperation during a visit of the company’s management to the University.

The University has also received a certificate from the “Energoatom” partners. The certificate confirms that the NNEGC “Energoatom” will equip the Department of Automation of Power Processes and Systems Engineering and the Department of Nuclear Power Stations and Engineering Thermal Physics of the Faculty of Heat and Power Engineering with a set of computer-grade equipment for 12 workplaces in 2021. Also, due to the company’s support, the Faculty of Heat and Power Engineering training specialists in nuclear energy has received an analytical simulator from the US Department of Energy and the Argonne National Laboratory (USA). The new equipment simulates the operation of a BWR reactor unit. It can display panels on computers located on the control panel of the nuclear power plant. Such simulators serve to train the skills of power plant management. Practicing on such modern simulators is extremely important for nuclear engineers because future professionals will be able to model any situations at a nuclear power unit up to an emergency. They will also learn to manage energy clouds in different real-life situations.

Among the areas of cooperation are analytical research commissioned by the NNEGC “Energoatom” at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; updating and maintenance of calculation codes and models for reactor core modeling and NPP safety analysis; safety research of new types of reactor units; introduction of analytical simulators; training of specialists and personnel in the use of modern methods and software tools for safety analysis of nuclear installations; implementation of international projects in the field of severe accident research and other relevant areas of nuclear safety research; training and support of users of modern settlement codes.

According to Dean of the Faculty of Heat and Power Engineering Yevhen Pismennyi, this agreement will also allow students to solve scientific and technical problems in the industry.
